To identify the Public Rights of Way that lie within the AONB to ensure that as people move around the highway network they begin to associate the surrounding countryside as being of national importance. |
Celebrating the boundaries
To mark the boundary of the AONB where it crosses major roads, to raise awareness of thelandscape designation.
Interpretation
To produce a strategy which identifies opportunities to:- raise awareness of what makes the AONB special.
- help create a sense of place.
- strengthen the profile of the AONB.
- help increase the economic benefit of having visitors in the AONB.

Survey and monitoring programme of County Wildlife Sites within the AONB

The original District Wildlife Inventory, carried out in 1991, identified many sites of known wildlife interest as being of unconfirmed status. Those sites within the AONB will be screened and prioritised for survey to see whether they are worthy of adoption as County Wildlife Sites. |
Monitoring of recreational usage
To install and manage automatic counters on key recreational routes, in order to establish the levelsof recreational use for routes within the AONB.
Primary archaeological survey
To
carry out a primary archaeological survey that will address the lack
of detailed and up to date
archaeological information about the area, providing enhanced
baseline information. The data from the
survey will also provide information for current and future agri-environment and conservation initiatives,
planning consultations and for general research.
Questionnaire survey of visitors
To carry out a survey this summer of people visiting the area, to ascertain awareness levels of

Community
Community Project Fund
To establish a discretionary small grant scheme aimed at supporting projects that conserve,
enhance and celebrate the diversity and character of the East Devon AONB. Further details

The Food Links project promotes local producers of food and drink. This helps to support local business and to sustain the farmed landscape. The next stage in the project is to undertake an evaluation of the effectiveness of the two Food Links publications produced to date and to examine the opportunity to deliver this project across the whole District.
