Parishscapes Project 2007-2010
Parishscapes - bringing the past to life
"Parishscapes is a community project that aims to make all the tithe maps for the East Devon AONB parishes available for public use as a means of increasing awareness of these historical maps and their connections to our landscape.....past and present"
|
What will Parishscapes do for you?
1. Digitise parish tithe maps, from Exmouth to Honiton and Uplyme, to develop a picture of land use, land ownership and settlement in 1840 and make them available for public use. To view a sample image of the tithe maps, click here - extract from the very detailed map for part of Sidmouth parish.
2. Work with local groups and contacts to gather Oral History of personal insights into change of landscape and landscape features across the area.
3. Organise workshops with schools and communities to develop study materials, resources or new skills to improve our understanding of landscape change and its relationship with wildife both past and present. To find out where we're up to click here.
4. Organise walks, talks and exhibitions that help bring the past to life - see our events pages for upcoming walks or community events.
