East Devon AONB Partnership is part of a National programme of test and trials for a new Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) being developed by Defra to replace the current Environmental Stewardship programme operating through the EU Agricultural Policy programmes.

Our project will run from December 2019 to March 2021 and is part of a collaborative proposal coordinated through the National Association for AONBs (NAAONB) entitled 'Farming for the Nation' which is testing a range of approaches across 12 AONBs in England.

The East Devon proposal is focussed on the Umborne Valley and aims to work with farmers and landowners with small (currently not qualifying on scale) High Nature Value habitat to develop joint/collaborative ELMs schemes as part of a wider nature recovery network.

Further details will be posted as the programme develops.

About Us

In England and Wales, our finest landscapes have been conserved through designation as National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).

The East Devon AONB was designated in 1963 and is one of the 46 AONBs situated across the UK. The National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty provides general information about AONBs, whilst the South West Protected Landscapes Forum exists to provide information and a regional voice for the 14 Protected Landscapes which, together, make up 38% of the South West of England.
