Sidmouth is designated Britain's first civic Arboretum a celebration of the wealth of fine trees in the area rather than a specific plantation. This walk, led by an expert from the civic Arboretum, takes us initially steeply up Salcombe Hill on the coast path eastwards from Sidmouth, before dropping down though oak and mixed woodland to the delightfully secluded small village of Salcombe Regis, part of Sidmouth Parish. The area is rich in history; the church has 12th century origins and an ancient yew. The walk returns by an inland route via an old lane lined with magnificent beeches.

This walk is part of Sidmouth and East Devon Walking Festival
