Walks

There are a number of walks for all abilities in and around East Devon AONB:

South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path is Britain 's longest National Trail, running from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point near Poole Dorset. The path includes all 95 miles of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site. It is managed and maintained by the East Devon District Council Countryside Service, 01395 517557, on behalf of Devon County Council and Natural England.

Visit www.southwestcoastpath.com/index.cfm for further information and details of short walks in East Devon - a 3 mile walk from Beer to Branscombe and a 5 mile walk from Budleigh Salterton to Otterton are featured under walks for everyone.

As well as the views, the path also boasts some fantastic flowers and wildlife - May is a good time to see the coastal flowers at their best. Seabirds are also highly visible, as well as other bird life.

In East Devon and Dorset, the stretch of the coastline has been awarded World Heritage status by the United Nations' education and science body, UNESCO - this is known as the Jurassic Coast , where fossils can be found dating back to prehistoric times. East Devon Way

East Devon provides one of the most delightful walking areas anywhere and many of the hills, woods, rivers and hill forts are accessible only on foot. The East Devon Way was developed by East Devon District Council in 1991 to show-case the magnificent scenery and wildlife that make up the East Devon AONB.

The Way links footpaths, bridleways and stretches of country lanes to create an inland route from Exmouth, through the AONB to Uplyme - distance is approximately 40 miles and the route is clearly marked with the foxglove logo.

Linking to the East Devon Way , are four circular walks, which allow walkers to explore further, distinctive areas of East Devon . Call the Discover Devon Holiday line 0870 608 5531 quoting reference DP17, to request a copy of the East Devon Way Walk Guide or goto our publications page for the East Devon Way information leaflet. The East Devon Way is managed by Devon County Council's Rights of Way team, 01392 382084.
