Join us for a magical bat detecting walk around Stonebarrow, in search of the rare Grey Long Eared Bat and some of the other 18 UK bat species.
Local bat enthusiasts Mary Anne Crafter and Ruth Worsley will lead the walk as we listen out for these mysterious flying mammals of the night and learn how to use bat detectors to help us identify the night-time bats on the wing.
The Golden Cap estate holds an incredible 15 of the 18 species, including the very rare Grey Long Eared bat.

This FREE event has been organised as part of the Grey Long-eared bat project. The species is one of the UK’s rarest bats, with only 8 known roosts confined to the southern coast, including a stronghold here in East Devon and West Dorset. It is also one of East Devon AONB’s ‘Elusive Eight’ threatened species chosen for nature recovery as part of the #SavingSpecialSpecies project.
The Grey Long-eared bat project is funded by the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund.
